If you have employees FACTA affects YOU!
The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (Facta) of 2003 is legislation designed to protect personal and company privacy.  This includes personal credit, medical and other information.

THE LAW STATES THAT-
Effective June 2005 FACTA requires all employers to take "reasonable measures" to protect against unauthorized access to information in connection with its disposal. Disposal of unnecessary records now requires record destruction or significant fines could result!

The law recommends basic acceptable  steps for disposal:
  • Shredding or burning
  • Smashing or wiping (electronic data)

State and Federal fines can amount to thousands of dollars and civil liability could entitle employees to recover their losses.

  • Protect your personal  data and/or your employees' personal data by destroying it  once you are done with it
  • It makes sense to invest a few hundred dollars in a shredder to ensure security.
